Ben Everson has left Middlesbrough and returned to Texas, USA, where he will continue his degree and play in the NCAA Soccer Championship for West Texas University. He made two appearances for Boro, scoring six goals, helping the team to record two wins and go top of the FA Futsal League North.
Everson has often stated that he would rather play futsal than football and is interested in a move to Italy to play alongside former teammate Matthew Wootton and his manager Damon Shaw has no doubt he has the ability to play at the top. "Ben has bags of ability, and with regular futsal training he could become a world class player. If he plays regularly I have no doubt he would be in the England team and could play in the Division de Honor or Serie A.
"It's a shame he's leaving us but I wish him all the best in USA and if he doesn't make it pro there he'll always have a place in our team."
Ben Everson played for Middlesbrough in 2007 and helped the team to win the York Futsal Open on the day after Boro was founded and subsequently in the FA Futsal Cup finals, scoring 10 goals in 5 games. He starred in The FPL too, helping Boro to a second place finish before heading over to USA on a scholarship to play soccer. He returned briefly at the start of 2009 to play a friendly for Boro and once again returned for the start of season 2010.
Ben was the last remaining player from Boro's founding team. To mark the complete turnover of the Boro squad since 23rd February 2007, BoroFutsal.com will be compiling a list of the 12 best players to play in Boro colours, which will be revealed on the club's third birthday on 23rd February.
